It’s official. “Cornucopia are the best band for Rockaoke we’ve ever heard”. So say Marc and Julie, who hired the band to play for their wedding in Brighton. “We went to see several Rockeoke bands at places like the Roadhouse, but they were all a bit limited in the choice of music they offered. Cornucopia’s song list is massive and covers all sorts of genres. They even accompanied my dad singing some light opera, but still managed the Kings of Leon and Duffy. Richard was also really encouraging, and all our guests left the stage with huge smiles on their faces.”

Unlike many of the bands out there who simply ditch the lead singer and allow a punter to take their place, Cornucopia are experts at making the “guest star” feel a part of what is going on. With the ability to transpose easily and instantaneously, and armed with an extensive songlist (and a vast body of other material just in case), Cornucopia are fast becoming the UK’s number one choice for Rockaoke. It’s much more fun than Karaoke, as it has the live band element, and there is a real sense of achievement from the participants. Move over Chris Moyles. Know your place.

This November saw our first Rockaoke Wedding party – we played the Yard in Brighton and accompanied an extraordinarily talented bride and lots of her friends. We had an assortment of people on stage with us, from the bride’s father (singing a little ditty from Gilbert & Sulivan’s “Mikado”) to a 3-year old singing “Hallelujah”. Everyone was up for it and really got very enthusiastic indeed. A great night, rounded off by the bride and groom’s (very accurate) rendition of “Start Wearing Purple”.

Cornucopia run Rockaoke at the Hootananny in Brixton on the first Wednesday of every month. This is an excellent night out, and Rockaoke can be booked for your Christmas party or any private occasion. It works like Karaoke, but you have a fabulous live band behind you. Instead of the bouncy ball, you have a folder of lyrics. And Richard is always there to guide you through the songs, should you flounder and lose your way (or the key). Come down and see us live – the next one is on November 3. We start at 9pm and finish around 12.30. Entrance is free. Get there early to sign up though, it’s very popular.

Rockeoke, or Rockaoke, or Live Band Karaoke, or Rock Star Karaoke, is an increasingly popular event to run for your party or event. Give your guests the opportunity to be a rockstar for a few minutes as they sing with a fantastic live band behind them. Cornucopia is, quite simply, the best band to run this for you. Why? Several reasons. Richard (who runs the band) is a qualified music teacher, and is very adaptable and encouraging. The band will often alter the key for you if your voice really won’t manage the original. The band is keyboard-led, unlike many of the other Rockeoke bands out there – this adds hundreds more songs into the repertoire. We don’t just play Rock either – we cover loads of different styles.

On the first Wednesday of each month they entertain the locals in Brixton at the Hootananny pub. Actually, it’s more than the locals — people come from miles to take part. Come down and check us out.

Kicking off at 9pm, we have changed the format slightly and will be providing 3 sets of 9 slots for you to fill… So get yourself down there early to make sure that you get your requests in…

It’s that time again… for the Live Band Karaoke at the Hootananny. Tonight folks, come down to the Hootananny in Brixton and rock out and sing with a live band backing you. It’s awesome! 9pm-12.30am, free entry.

Rockeoke. Rockaoke. Live Band Karaoke. Popeoke. Bandeoke. Abbeoke. Swingeoke. What next? Punkeoke? Gangstaoke? Rapaoke? Thrashaoke? Or we could get more specific… how about Amyeoke (for Winehouse fans), Tinaoke (Ike and Tina), Queeneoke, or Stockaoke (for Stock, Aitken and Waterman afficionados). We could have 80eoke, Chicaoke, Robbieoke, Stevieoke, Elvisaoke… or we could go for styles of dance – how about Lambadaoke, Salsaoke or even… (wait for it!)… the Hokey Cokeyaoke!

Jumping (literally) on the bandwagon just has to be done, but I’m exhausted doing it… I’ve been trawling the web just to find the latest trends for my industry just to stay afloat! Triumph though – just managed to buy www.rockeoke.com – nobody had snapped it up!

Rockaoke night

So, it’s that time of the month again when Cornucopia will be rockin’ Brixton at the Hootananny pub. From 9pm till the early hours you can come and be a rockstar for 5 minutes and be backed by the best band in the business (nice alliteration there!)…

Don’t forget, this Live Band Karaoke is available to take to your event should you want it, or it can simply be tagged onto the evening if you book the whole band.
